The '73 Thing next to My '64 Beetle. It's hard to believe these are nearly the same vehicle.
It's got a complete motor (more-or-less). I don't know yet if it will start or run, but at least I've got a basis for a rebuild. I also need to find out if I need to replace all the emissions crap to get it registered - I sure hope not.
Not exactly a Cadillac. Here it is after I removed the rotted seats, rotted convertible top, leaves and garbage. With a good power wash, some patching work on the pans, POR-15 and rhino lining, I'll be in the lap of luxury.
Brand spanking new shocks and greasy rust everywhere else. The PO raised the rear end, but I'm a little worried about the angles on the CV joints. I'll probably lower it down a little until I can afford some race CV's.
So the PO cut and twisted the beam to raise the car and installed new shocks, but ignored the fact that half the shock towers are completely rusted and falling apart. A new beam and front end rebuild is needed here.
Ugly patch panels were installed over the rusty pans. My anal side wants to cut out the entire pans and replace them. In the spirit of building a cheapo beater, I'm going to leave them. They're solid and will get beat up by rocks anyway.
Here's the loose junk that was in the car. Most of it's garbage, but some of it will clean up and be usable.
